There are a large variety of dishes and all of the items arrived to our table piping hot. The service was quite fast and friendly. I wouldn’t describe the food as outstanding, just good. I was hoping that the dishes would have been more authentic Chinese. The Sichuan chicken with mixed vegetables was not spicy at all, a total disappointment. Being Sichuan, I was hoping for a spicy, hot dish. It was pretty bland. When I mentioned this to the hostess, she said that we could have ordered it spicy. I come to this place because it is close proximity to where I live. The atmosphere of this place is amazing. There are booths set up like Japanese-styled rooms, jazz music is played in the background (okay not authentic, but meh), the chopsticks are placed in either bamboo boxes or in mini-kimonos. The food, well, it really depends on what your order. I give top marks to the rolls they have, and I especially recommend the Toronto and Monster rolls, those two are unique in their own ways. I didn't like their sushi and sashimis, found their fish rather not fresh. The ramen and udons are excellent. Tempura is a no-go. Service-wise is quite wishy washy due to a lack of staff, especially if you're sitting by the booths. The ring for service technique is ineffective; even I can't tell how the mechanism will notify waitresses that you need assistance. They are very friendly though. Will I visit again? Yes, of course. Just know what you're ordering. Hey, if you visit often, the chefs sometimes give something new for you to try! Lire plus

Just revisited on a Friday. Luckily, I found parking in their tiny lot, about 20 spots, that it shares with Swiss Chalet. And I'm sure that non-patrons park there too! Positive: The atmosphere is quite nice, dimly lit, tealights at tables. Service is also pleasant. I accidentally tipped over my tea and it was addressed immediately. Not-so-positive: I would say that sushi is *just* okay. When maki rolls arrived, from a distance, it just literally looked like a plate of white rice. Presentation was definitely their weak point. Pieces were not only cut unevenly, but they also fell apart as I picked them up with my chopsticks. Rolls were not rolled tight enough. Instead they were quite large and loose. I'd expect this from a lower priced sushi joint, but not at these prices! Lire plus

Returned here to friendly smiles after being far away from the area for 15 years. Since 123 was established in 1998, it has clearly and consistently maintained a very high standard in the skill of their chefs and serving simply superb and delicious traditional/popular new world Chinese food. 123 isn't a restaurant and perhaps that is in its favour as a take out and away service where the emphasis is entirely on the food and the quality of the cooking. So, as far as 'atmosphere' goes, it gets a 5 star rating for not having one! Place your order and it is filled efficiently and on time. They deliver in Cobourg but it's also no wonder that people drive in from all around to pick up. This place is that good. I cannot ever recall a dish from 123 that was disappointing. If there is a weakness, (that might be considered a strength from a business perspective) it might be in the limitation of the menu where one might not find a dish or two that is commonly found elsewhere. Still their success is obviously in providing enough variety in key Cantonese, "Hong Kong", Szechuan and new world dishes to satisfy the majority of people. If you are used to ordering 'off menu' and asking for favours in combinations of things, you won't find that at 123. Perhaps if one was to get to know the chef personally after several visits and face to face that could be done but that's not a part of their formula. Of course, a necessity in Chinese cooking (and anything outside of a crock pot) is the freshness of ingredients and here is where 123 delivers. The veggies crunch, the wraps and breadings are crisp and the meats are tender. Nothing soggy as in so many other places. The crispy fried won ton are incredible. They're big and fresh and crunchy! The Lemon Chicken is presented in little thinly breaded chicken bites that can be lifted with your chopsticks and dipped into the delicious lemon sauce. We loved the spicy curried Singapore Rice Noodles, the Happy Family (a combination of meats and veggies) as well as the San Goo Guy Pan and Beef with Chinese Green. The honey garlic ribs were fresh and tender; not 'stringy' or tough. The fried rice is outstanding. This place and the people who make it happen deserve the custom they receive. What a pleasure. Service was pretty good considering we were eating in an asian establishment. Tea was topped up, food was replenished quickly, and the side dishes kept coming. I didn't use their washroom but the location is accessible by TTC or Car. Nice spacious dining area and it was clean. I liked how food was coming non-stop. We had so much food that night - great bang for our buck. Although the taste of the food was a little bland (compared to other Korean BBQ places), the side dishes made up for it. The kothu parotta is made with diced parotta and mixture of eggs,chicken/mutton and spices and served with gravy. It tasted really good and had fair amount of quantity for the price.
