Tonight was opening night for the Fat Duck...

Tonight was opening night for the Fat Duck. Considering that, the food was spectacular. Tim Halley, the previous executive chef of the Aberfoyle Mill did not disappoint, being spot on with each dish that came out. The shrimp dumplings were cooked as "potstickers". The filling had plenty of shrimp and the Asian salad was the perfect compliment. The sauce was so good my wife kept the plate so she could dip her thick sweet potato chips in it. The Crispy Duck was crisp on the outside but so tender on the inside it melted off the bone. The asparagus was tender yet not mushy and the thick sweet potato chips were huge and cooked just right. My wife finished off the chips with the sauce from the dumplings. The Rowe meat beef burger was probably the thickest I've ever had. The slightly sweet caramelized onions and rich cheese melted down over the medium rare beef patty and was topped off by fresh lettuce and tomato, all on a tender Kaiser bun. The thick chips were really "thick", stacked like wooden beams on the plate. I dribbled vinegar over the chips and dipped them in the horse radish mustard that was supplied. Mm, mm, mm - so good! The service was slightly on the slow side, which is understandable for opening night. The waitress was friendly, polite and she consistently visited our table to see whether or not we were satisfied. All in all, it was a very satisfying meal and evening. My wife and I will definitely be back and would highly recommend The Fat Duck. It is a great addition to the south side of Guelph.

Very good service. Wait staff was very friendly. Salads were great and well presented. Would definitely return again. Have to give restaurants time to develop in Guelph. Nice to have a new restaurant at the south end of Guelph

FOOD WAS AMAZING, SERVICE ALSO, WE HAD TO WAIT FOR 20 MINUTES FOR A TABLE, BUT RELAXED AND HAD A DRINK IN THE BAR AREA. A LITTLE DISSAPPOINTED IN THE DECOR WHERE WE WERE SEATED THOUGH, THINK IT COULD HAVE BEEN A BIT MORE COZY. OVERALL WOULD GO BACK.

I saw the sign of the fat duck go up a couple...

I saw the sign of the fat duck go up a couple weeks ago and decided to give it a try. It is in the location of soo many different failed restaurants and figured I would give the next victim yet another try. Upon entering the restaurant the bartender greeted me. I found I had to wait 2 or 3 mins to get seated till out of frustration I just went and sat down. We ordered a set of casers and we could tell our waitress is new. I try not to judge a restaurant on their wait staff when they first open but on their food and this case was no different. I ordered fish and chips which came and had the same type of battering as KFC, it wasn’t that it was heavy it was just that there was soo much of it that I ended up stripping most of it from the fish and eating just the insides. I also asked to add cheese and gravy to my fries and assumed they would be normal fries. The fries were the size of fingers and they did put cheese on em but I only got 5 of em. The person I was with ordered a Cesar salad which came covered in cheese and bacon, so it turned a semi healthy dish into a gastrointestinal smorgasbord. It appeared to be good but a bit to heavy. I ordered the crème brulee for desert which was supposed to be a chai tea infused and topped with black tea. It arrived and it appears someone was flambé happy as the sugar had caramelized. The waitress noticed I didn’t eat it and asked if I wanted it removed from the bill. This action saved my meal. Alysia rocked even though we got off to a bit of a rocky start. She kept a eye on our drinks and kept coming by to make sure we were alright. I would definitely return based on the human experience I received. The only thing I would complain out is the lack of a intimate pub style feel. It appears that they decided to skimp out on the chairs and they ordered some powder coated monstrosities that were not conducive to the put feel.
